Core Values – The Essence of what we are, Not what we want to be.

Every company has or should have a set of core values. These values set a company apart from their competition by clarifying who they are and what they stand for. Having the “same-old-values” doesn’t set a company apart from everyone else – they make it disappear into the background. Let’s start by breaking them down;

Be Accountable…
Webster’s dictionary defines accountability as “an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one’s actions”. Accountability is one of the foundations of every successful business. When one is accountable they have respect from others and for one’s self.

Be Driven to Succeed…
There is no shortcut to success. Everyone who works for Marcus Paint understands that having the drive to succeed is critical to our success. If everyone is driven to succeed it can only result in achieving both our goals and our customers goals. We’re never satisfied with our past successes – we’re always preparing for our next goal as if it were the most important thing we have ever done.

Have a Desire to Learn…
One of the driving forces we have as a team is the need and desire to learn. Our company has never been one that is happy with the way things are and satisfied with the status quo and neither should anyone else. We see change as an opportunity to learn. If you are not learning you are not growing. We don’t expect that all employees will be able to think outside the box in every situation – what we DO expect is that they are always striving to make their box bigger.

Empower Others…
Empowerment is about giving the authority to better serve the customer – both internally and externally. Give the freedom to exhibit initiative, ownership and responsibility… and good things will follow. Expectations can’t be met without empowerment. It’s also about finding the answer yourself and not expecting someone else to tell you. “The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.”– President Ronald Reagan

Have Fun…
We want employees who are Fun. How often do you leave your home in the morning and think, “I’m going to have fun at work today?” Our philosophy is that if people are having fun, they’re going to work harder, smarter, and keep their cool in times of crisis. Working under constant stress can make us ill. It’s easier to smile than not to. Having fun while you work keeps things fresher and improves your attitude toward doing a good job.
